  1. Enhance the academic cooperation between universities in the service area and those in Taiwan:
    1. Promote Chinese Teachers Program
    2. Arrange Taiwan visits by university administrators and scholars

  2. Encourage American students to study in Taiwan :
    • Total foreign students in Taiwan in 2003 academic year: 7,844

  3. Offer assistance to representatives of educational and cultural organizations in Taiwan before and during their USA visits.

  4. Liaise with students from Taiwan:
    1. Students studying abroad in 2004: 26,318
    2. MOE Scholarship Students in service area as of May 2005: 44
    3. Provide overseas studies scholarships.
    4. Assist students in emergency.
    5. Process degree verification.
    6. Organize activities for students from Taiwan.
    7. Subsidize participation in conference and seminar
      • Year 2004: 49 cases
      • Year 2005: 30 cases
    8. Sponsor Taiwanese Student Association activities:
      • Year 2004: budget $5,000; 12 schools/22 cases
      • Year 2005: budget $5,500; being processed

  5. Collect and analyze the latest international education information to meet the needs of education reform and policy making:
    1. Forwarding important news to Ministry of Education in time.
    2. Reporting significant educational legislations and developments in USA
